The son of a £101million Euromillions jackpot winner has failed in a bid to force his father to continue giving him money for life.

Michael Dawes, 32, accused his father Dave, 53, and step-mother Angela, 49, of being “ungenerous” following their lottery win, refusing to pay him any more money following a family rift.

The Afghanistan veteran took his case to court, claiming he and civil partner James Beedle, 34, had been promised financial support for life.

Mr Dawes, who scooped the jackpot in 2011, had given out £30 million to family and friends, including £1.5 million to his son.

But he grew concerned that Michael was “burning through money”, and following a fall-out at his wife’s birthday party in 2013 he stopped the payments.

The court also heard Michael and James, who gave up their jobs, had demanded a £5 million lump sum from Mr Dawes.

But at Central London County Court yesterday, Judge Nigel Gerald rejected the son’s claim, saying he was “baffled” by his spending which reached £20,000 to £30,000 a month at one stage.

“This was way outside their means”, he said.

“There was no basis on which any rational or normal human being could conclude they could go back for more money whenever they wanted.”
