Ex-borders chief settles

Brodie Clark: Quit his 40-year career in the Home Office last year
16 March 2012

The ex-head of the UK’s Border Force, who was suing Home Secretary Theresa May after quitting in a row over relaxation of immigration checks, has settled his dispute with the Home Office.

Brodie Clark, 60, has reached an out-of-court deal in which neither side admits liability or wrongdoing. No details of how much he will receive are being revealed due to a confidentiality agreement but it is likely to be six figures.

Mr Clark was suspended then resigned after a 40-year Home Office career last November when he was blamed by Mrs May for the allegedly unauthorised easing of border checks.

He began a constructive dismissal case that could have won him £135,000 but today issued a statement with the Home Office saying the matter was settled.
