Exhibition celebrates life of Diana

12 April 2012

A new exhibition celebrating the life of Diana, Princess of Wales, opens on Saturday at her former home Kensington Palace.

It features more than 200 photographs of the Princess, as well as film footage of Diana and interviews with people who knew her personally.

Diana: A Princess Remembered centres on four aspects of her life - princess, mother, fashion icon and humanitarian.

Some of her glamorous evening gowns are also on show, including a striking black dress with beaded bodice worn to the Palace of Versailles in 1994 and a shimmering sequinned green Mermaid dress from 1986, both by Catherine Walker.

Designers including Bruce Oldfield, Elizabeth Emanuel and David Sassoon all feature in interviews, talking about working with the Princess on her wardrobe.

The tour ends with Mario Testino's famous portraits of Diana and his thoughts on their photoshoot together.

Kensington Palace in London became the focal point for the grieving public when Diana was killed in 1997.

Well-wishers left a sea of floral tributes in front of the palace's ornate iron gates in the wake of her death.

Diana: A Princess Remembered, which marks the 10th anniversary of the Princess' death, will run until January next year.

It opens as Princes William and Harry prepare to stage their concert in memory of their mother at Wembley on Sunday.
