Ex-royal butler facing sex charges

A former royal butler is appearing in court charged with nine counts of rape involving boys.

Paul Kidd, 54, of Grasscroft Road, Stalybridge, near Manchester, is expected to enter a plea at the city's Minshull Street Crown Court, Manchester, to a total of 18 child abuse offences.

He faces nine charges of rape, four of gross indecency, two of indecent assault and three of sexual assault.

Kidd, who worked as a senior footman to the Queen Mother from 1979 to 1984, was remanded in custody when he appeared before Tameside magistrates on February 2.
