A father who raped his baby girl and recorded himself on his mobile phone committing other acts of sexual abuse has been jailed for life, police said.
The 29-year-old, from Three Rivers, Hertfordshire, carried out what the judge called offences of "horrifying depravity" against his daughter when she was six months old.
These included taking 27 indecent photographs of her, four at level four which is the second most serious level, Hertfordshire Police said. The offences against his daughter took place between March 1 and December 31, 2008.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, also possessed 475 indecent movies of children, more than 5,000 indecent images of children, an extreme pornographic movie file and two extreme pornographic images.
He pleaded guilty at St Albans Crown Court yesterday to two counts of rape, one count of sexual assault, inciting a child to commit a sexual act, taking indecent images, possession of indecent images of children, possession of indecent movies of children and possession of extreme pornographic material, a police spokesman said.
He was originally arrested for the making and possession of indecent images of children, but further investigation by police revealed he had been abusing his daughter. He received life imprisonment for the rape and sexual assault.
For the other offences he received a total of 10 years and two months' imprisonment, to run concurrent with his life sentence.
Passing sentence, Judge Stephen Gullick said the man had abused the most basic duty of a father - to protect his child - for his own ends.
He told him he had grossly abused the trust of the girl's mother, who had left her in his care in good faith, and left her with "enormous difficulties" as the child gets older and asks about her father.
The man apologised for what he had done.
