Fire mother's web comments examined

The scene of the house fire in Buxton, Derbyshire, in which two young children died
12 April 2012

Comments a mother made on Facebook are part of the investigation into a blaze that killed her two young children, police have said.

Fiona Adams, 23, escaped from her home in Buxton, Derbyshire, with her eight-month-old son Kiernan on Friday night by jumping from a bedroom window.

Her two other children, Niamh and Cayden Maynard, aged five and two, died when they were trapped upstairs by the fire.

Ms Adams remained sedated and in a stable condition in Manchester's Wythenshawe Hospital, police said. Her son was also said to be in a stable condition in Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.

A 17-year-old youth arrested in connection with the fire was released on Sunday and ruled out as a suspect.

Since the tragedy at the house on Edale Way, it emerged Ms Adams reported noise and anti-social behaviour in her back garden just an hour before the fire started.

Derbyshire Police also said they had been called to the address in Edale Way several times in the past three years - mainly in relation to domestic-related matters and on a few occasions in relation to reports of anti-social behaviour or damage.

Assistant Chief Constable Steve Cotterill said that they were looking into comments the 23-year-old made on Facebook on Friday night and they would form part of the investigation.

"There is no information to suggest that there was a dedicated campaign targeting this address or family," he said.

"The police investigation is still very much ongoing and the help and co-operation of the community is pivotal to it being successful. I'd like to thank the community of Fairfield for their support to our investigation so far and I am extremely grateful for that and the measured way in which local people have responded to this tragedy."
