Former Premier League footballer DJ Campbell has been arrested in connection with a stabbing outside a nightclub.

The 28-year-old striker was arrested on Thursday in Blackpool where he is currently on loan from Leicester City.

He was then handed over to detectives at the Metropolitan Police who are investigating the stabbing of a man outside the Crescent Club in West Kensington, west London, in January.

Campbell, who played in the Premier League with Birmingham City and whose first names are Dudley Junior, was later released on bail.

A Met Police spokesman said: "On April 22, a 28-year-old man was arrested in Blackpool in connection with a stabbing at a nightclub on Northend Road, W14.

"The incident is alleged to have occurred on January 10. He was taken to a west London police station and later bailed to return pending further inquiries."

The victim, in his 20s, was stabbed in the side during a mass brawl involving up to 30 people outside the club.

He was taken to hospital with non-lifethreatening injuries and released shortly afterwards.
