Gantry protest causes M25 chaos

12 April 2012

Rush hour traffic ground to a halt on one of Britain's busiest roads after a protester climbed on to a gantry.

Holidaymakers heading to Heathrow Airport were among those caught up in long tailbacks after four lanes of the M25 were closed.

The affected section is on the anti-clockwise carriageway between junction 15 - the M4 turn-off - and junction 14, for Heathrow.

The Highways Agency said traffic jams were stretching back to junction 16.

The man, who is dressed as Batman, is thought to be linked to the protest group Fathers 4 Justice.
