Gerrard bar brawl: Four face court

12 April 2012

Two footballers charged in connection with the nightclub brawl which saw Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard accused of assault are due to appear in court.

Accrington Stanley FC goalkeeper Ian Dunbavin, 28, of Southport, Merseyside, and the club's midfielder, Robert Grant, 18, of Litherland, Liverpool, are charged with affray.

The pair were charged following a disturbance at the Lounge Bar nightclub in Southport in the early hours of December 29.

Company director Marcus McGee, 34, from Churchtown, Southport, required hospital treatment after receiving facial injuries in the incident.

Gerrard, a father-of-two who is married to model Alex Curran, 26, was at the bar with friends to celebrate Liverpool's 5-1 win over Newcastle United.

The 28-year-old Liverpool and England player remains on bail after appearing in court last month charged with assault and affray.

Gerrard's solicitor indicated at his first court appearance that he would plead not guilty to the charges.

The Accrington Stanley footballers are due before North Sefton magistrates alongside two other men.

Paul McGrattan, 31, of Huyton, Liverpool, is charged with affray and assaulting a police officer. John McGrattan, 33, of Bowring Park, Liverpool, is charged with affray.

Gerrard is due before the same court on March 20.
