Giant skateboard takes sport to extreme

Big board: Skateboard champion Matty Carlisle with the giant skateboard
24 July 2012

Don’t be tempted to try a railstand or G-turn on this skateboard. Nearly 22 feet long, eight feet wide and weighing 40 stone, the UK’s largest board was created by six engineers.

The super-size scale replica was brought to Mile End Skate Park after a survey showed almost two thirds of children think the Olympics will be worth watching only when more extreme sports are included.

Standing astride the giant board was skateboarding champion Matty Carlisle, who has just turned pro at the age of 14. It has now been moved to its permanent home at Britain’s largest indoor skate park in Liverpool.

The board was created by sweet brand Mega Mouth.
