A teenage girl will appear before magistrates charged with murdering her 16-year-old sister.

The 14-year-old will appear at Bradford Magistrates' Court accused of stabbing to death her elder sister at their home in Halifax, West Yorkshire.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said the 14-year-old girl was charged with murder on Wednesday afternoon and kept in custody.

He added that she would appear before Calderdale Magistrates who are temporarily sitting at Bradford magistrates' court.

Police and paramedics were called to an address in the Ovenden area of the town on Monday night.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service said two teenage girls were found with stab wounds.

They were both taken to Calderdale Royal Hospital, where the 16-year-old later died.

Her younger sister was later released from hospital and taken to a police station.

The results of a post-mortem examination have not yet been made public by West Yorkshire Police.
