A dentist found dead in her home committed suicide, her husband has said.
A post-mortem examination revealed that Dr Helen Nicoll, 53, died from asphyxiation at her £1.5million Cambridgeshire home last Friday.
Her husband, Stephen, said in a statement issued through his lawyers Stokoe Partnership Solicitors: “These last few days have been the worst of my life. Nobody can understand the true loss that my children and I have experienced following the discovery that my wife Helen has taken her own life.”
Mr Nicoll, 53, also a dentist, was previously arrested and bailed in connection with the mother-of-three’s death. Police said he will face no further action.
He added: “We have fully co-operated with the police investigation and the matter has now been referred to the coroner.
“Whatever questions remain surrounding the circumstances of Helen’s death, I would ask everybody, particularly the media, to respect our privacy and allow us to come to terms with our devastating loss and to begin the grieving process as a family following this tragedy.”
Mr Nicoll’s solicitor, Paul Oliver, said: “The arrest of Mr Nicoll in the immediate aftermath of the death of his beloved wife and the consequential media interest in this tragic case compounded the distress caused to him and his family.”
Both were partners at a private dental practice in Hurst Park, Cambridge, and Dr Nicoll also worked in Harley Street.
