Several huge plastic pipes that are up to 480 metres long have washed up on the English coast.

The Norwegian-made pipes, which are approximately 2.5 metres in diameter, came loose while being towed from the East Anglian coast and washed up in Norfolk.

Officials said they were newly built and were destined for Algeria before four of them washed up by Horsey and Sea Palling.

Eight of the pipes remained under control offshore.

Authorities said there was no danger or potential for pollution from the pipes.

They added that two specialist companies, Dutch Marine BV and Marine Towing Services, were working to remove them.

All of the pipes are expected to be secured before they are towed back to the manufacturer in Norway.

The name of the company or vessel involved in transporting the pipes has not been revealed by authorities.
