Huntley 'admits child sex attack'

12 April 2012

Soham child killer Ian Huntley has confessed to sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl, the victim's solicitor said.

Hailey Giblin, now 21, has always maintained she was one of the killer's first victims in 1997.

She insists the police should have taken action against Huntley - who went on to murder 10-year-olds Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.

Mrs Giblin's solicitor, Richard Scorer, said: "Huntley has signed a consent order in the presence of his solicitor, admitting the allegations in the claim.

"In light of this new evidence we will now present this information to Humberside Police and ask them to reopen the investigation in relation to Hailey's allegations."

Mrs Giblin, who waived her right to anonymity, said she felt "a massive sense of relief" after hearing that Huntley had admitted attacking her.

She added: "This has blighted my life for 10 years now and I felt I had no other choice than to fight for justice, and fight for what I believe in.

"I hope now that with Ian Huntley admitting his crimes that he committed against me that this will silence my critics. I hope that my story will inspire countless other victims of abuse to not be ignored and simply be a statistic of rape or abuse."

Mrs Giblin, a mother of one from Barton-upon-Humber, north Lincolnshire, is currently pursuing a civil claim for damages against Huntley.

Initially Huntley, 33, contested the civil action, insisting he had not attacked Mrs Giblin in an orchard in the Cleethorpes area in 1997.
