Indeterminate sentence for rapist

12 April 2012

A man who raped an 81-year-old woman has been given an indeterminate sentence for public protection.

Kyle Lloyd, 20, climbed through a window to attack the pensioner in her own home, raping her in her bed.

She died last September, following the assault at her warden-controlled bungalow in Redditch in the early hours of July 29, Worcester Crown Court heard.

Lloyd, of Woodrow, Redditch, Worcestershire, had previously pleaded guilty to the crime.

Lloyd, who did not react as he learned his sentence, was told he must serve a minimum of three and a half years, less the time he has already spent in custody.

But Judge John Cavell warned him this did not mean he would be released at the end of that period.

The court heard how, having taken a cocktail of drugs and alcohol, Lloyd entered the victim's bedroom, put his hand over her mouth, and told her not to scream.

The father-of-two then raped her, remaining in her home for more than half an hour, the court heard.

He was arrested after leaving fingerprints and DNA traces at the scene, and the victim had suffered internal injuries.

The horrific attack wrought a dramatic change in the previously independent woman, who "went downhill" after the rape.
