Labour MP Ivan Lewis is facing an investigation following allegations of sexual harassment.

The investigation comes after Buzzfeed reported that the Bury South MP had repeatedly touched a 19 year olds leg and invited her back to his house at a fundraising event in 2010.

The woman confirmed that she had made a formal complaint on Wednesday night.

Mr Lewis has denied the allegations and said that he has not sexually harassed anyone.

However, earlier this month he did apologise for his previous behaviour towards women he had worked with who he had made feel “awkward” but he denied making any “non-consensual sexual comments or sexual advances”

A Labour Party spokesman refused to discuss details of the allegation but said any complaint of sexual harassment was treated extremely seriously.

A spokesperson for the party said: “The Labour Party takes all allegations of sexual harassment extremely seriously and all complaints are investigated in line with our robust procedures".
