It is murder, insists al Fayed

12 April 2012

Mohamed al Fayed has insisted the deaths of Princess Diana and his son Dodi were murder.

Mr al Fayed, who left the High Court after a jury returned verdicts of unlawful killing, said: "The most important thing is it is murder."

He added nothing further before leaving the court, but in a statement read by his spokeswoman, he said he was "disappointed" by the verdicts, which would come as a blow to his millions of supporters around the world.

Reading the statement outside the court, Katharine Witty said it had been a long fight to establish the truth about the deaths of his son Dodi and Diana, Princess of Wales.

"I am not the only person who says they were murdered," she read.

"Diana predicted she would be murdered and how it would happen, so I am disappointed.

"The verdicts will come as a blow to the many millions of people around the world who have supported my struggle, and I thank them."

Mr al Fayed said he had "endured" two police investigations for 10 years.

The statement continued: "The French and the Scotland Yard inquiries were wrong. These inquests prove it. They said it was an accident and their findings are now dismissed.

"The jury have found that it wasn't just the paparazzi who caused the crash, but identified following vehicles. Who they are and what they were doing in Paris is still a mystery."
