Jimmy Greaves' agent sends message of thanks to wellwishers who sent messages of support

Jimmy Greaves’ agent has thanked the “thousands” of wellwishers who have sent the football legend messages of support following a major stroke which has left him in intensive care.

The 75-year-old is in a serious condition after being admitted to hospital on Sunday.

His agent, Terry Baker, who broke the news on Greaves’ official Twitter page, yesterday wrote: “We have had thousands of get well messages...Thank you to everyone for your thoughts at this time.”

He later tweeted: “No change so far Keep good thoughts for Jim Thnx terry”.

The world of football rallied around the former England, Tottenham, Chelsea and West Ham striker after he was admitted to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford.

Gary Lineker said: “Choked to read that Jimmy Greaves has had a severe stroke.

“One of my absolute heroes. Thoughts are with him and his family. Get well, Jimmy.”

Tottenham, West Ham, Chelsea and the Football Association all tweeted messages of support for the former footballer as did his former England team-mate Sir Geoff Hurst.

“Thinking of my friend and one of our greats this morning, @jimmy-greaves. Wishing him all the best and hoping for a speedy recovery,” Hurst said.
