The designer who created the Duchess of Cambridge's wedding dress will be presented with an OBE by the Prince of Wales today.

Kate's memorable gown was designed by Sarah Burton, of Alexander McQueen, who will receive the honour for services to the British fashion industry.

The Duchess's intricately decorated dress received a rapturous reception on her big day in April last year.

Also being honoured during the Buckingham Palace investiture ceremony is author Susan Hill, best known for her gothic novel The Woman In Black, who will be made a CBE for services to literature.

Actress and campaigner April Ashley, who became the first Briton to undergo sex-change surgery, will receive an MBE for services to transgender equality.

Born a boy, she underwent the sex change operation in Casablanca, Morocco, in 1960.

Serjeant Deacon Cutterham, who plunged his arm into a water-filled ditch in Afghanistan to retrieve a grenade and throw it to safety, will be awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross for his actions.
