His tattoos were mocked by Laura Robson and have been the subject of almost as much attention as his tennis — but after dumping Australia’s best player out of the US Open, Dan Evans has claimed the women’s British No 1 plans to get her own.

He said Robson, 19, who will try to reach the last 16 today when she takes on former French Open champion Li Na in the third round, told him that she was planning to have a tattoo of her own.

Robson has described Evans as an “interesting character” and reportedly said she was “worried” Evans was planning to add to his body art after his surprise win over Bernard Tomic last night.

She said of him previously: “He’s got a Jesus tattoo. I mean, if you’ve ever spoken to him, he’s really not the most religious person. That doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.” After his shock first round win against 11th seed Kei Nishikori she tweeted: “Massive win from @Evo151216! Shame about the tattoos though.”

Evans said: “I don’t understand what her thing is with these tattoos. She told me the other day she was going to get a tattoo.

“I am just going to throw that out there so she can answer questions about tattoos now.”
