End of an era: Loaded magazine

Loaded magazine is set to close down after 21 years as one of the country's leading lads mags.

Simian Publishing today confirmed the latest edition of the publication, which came out yesterday, would be the last.

Its final cover star is rocker Noel Gallagher, who was interviewed as part of what the magazine called a 'classic rock issue'.

The final edition also includes an interview with Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh.

The magazine, which launched in 1994 and once had six-figure sales, became known for its features about drinking, football, music as well as its pictures of scantily-clad women.

Contributors included writers Hunter S Thompson, Irvine Welsh and Nick Hornby.

But its publisher decided to call time on the publication after sales declined as readers started to move online and the magazine went through several owners.

Deputy editor Lia Nicholls posted pictures of the "very first and unfortunately the last" issues of the magazine on Twitter, telling readers: "Sad day. Loved every minute."

James Brown, who edited the magazine in its heyday, said the news was "a pity".

He said: "The last team seemed to have made a real go of it"
