Londoners hoping for a long-awaited dose of spring sunshine this Easter look set to be disappointed.

Forecasters said the outlook for the Bank Holiday weekend looks relatively bleak amid warnings of rain on Good Friday.

The Met Office warned of "persistent" downpours on Thursday night and into Friday morning before the outlook brightens.

After a damp start to Friday the rain is expected to clear, but mist and cloud will remain and temperatures are not expected to exceed around 12C.

And although the forecast for the remainder of the weekend is brighter, Londoners are unlikely to see too many signs of spring.

The Met Office said the weekend will be "mostly cloudy and mainly dry, though some brighter intervals are also likely at times."

Its forecast added that it would be "feeling a little milder than of late, especially during any sunnier periods."
