Holidaymakers could see a return of flights between London and Sydney in November, a travel boss has claimed.

This was fresh hope for jet-setters amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Graham Turner, CEO of the Flight Centre, has named the British capital as the first international destination to be on the cards for people in Sydney who currently remain in a lockdown.

Covid cases in New South Wales (NSW) have soared to 1,900 for the first time in the coronavirus pandemic.

Both NSW and Victoria in Australia have been fighting outbreaks of the Delta variant.

“NSW has nothing to lose,” Mr Turner told The Daily Telegraph in Australia. “They’ve got the infection. It doesn’t matter that they bring in more.”

He noted home quarantine and apps have shown Covid vaccination are what the country needs for “international travel to work” amid the pandemic.

“To enable Australians to travel overseas again - vaccinated Australians, for vaccinated Australians to come to Australia, for people to be able to move around - then home quarantine needs to work,” he told Sky News Australia’s Kieran Gilbert on Tuesday.

“The QR code readers that the states have they need to work to be able to show whether someone has been vaccinated or not.

“We’re working with the states and territories to enable that.”
