Marital infidelity in the capital is the worst in the country with over a quarter of all married couples admitting to affairs according to a new survey.
The latest One Poll survey revealed that 26% of married people in London have had at least one affair and a shocking one in ten admitting to cheating more than five times.
Rosie Freeman-Jones, spokeswoman for IllicitEncounters.com which commissioned the poll, said: “Longer working hours and the stresses and strains of living in the capital during the recession have pushed many marriages to breaking point.
"As a result we have found that a growing number of Londoners have been tempted to look outside of their relationship to release the pressure of an unhappy home life and a punishing work schedule.”
In relation to other regions Londoners were almost twice as likely to have an extra-marital affair when compared with the most faithful regions of the country of East Anglia, where only 16.58% admitted cheating on their spouse and South East 18.07%.
The relatively large numbers of unhappily married couples in the capital has created a huge amount of demand for the Illicit Encounters extra-marital dating site which has grown rapidly in the past year to over 107,000 members in Greater London.
Ms Freeman-Jones added: “It’s likely that London’s vibrant nightlife and work-hard, play-hard culture contributes to the number of opportunities to have an affair and thus the level of infidelity.
“Also we found from responses that Londoners thought it was easier to have an affair in the capital because of the sheer size of the city made it possible to keep trysts and dinner dates secret.”
The survey commissioned by the website asked 3,601 married English and Welsh couples who were not signed to the website about their sexual habits within marriage and it showed that Londoners also came in the top five regions for most frequent sex within marriage with 17.85% saying they had sex almost every day - only the West Midlands (21.01%) and Wales (17.92%) had more.

Due to this high quantity of sex both in and outside of their marriages, it’s hardly surprising that Londoners came second in the country as the most sexually satisfied with 42% of married Londoners happy with the amount of sex they are getting.
