A 34 year-old man has been charged with the murder of a five-year-old boy.

Pazeer Ahmed Bhatti will appear before Wakefield Magistrates' Court on Thursday, said the Crown Prosecution Service.

Bhatti was arrested at his home on Monday following the death of the five-year-old boy at Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

Police were called after the ambulance service attended a house on Aberford Road, Wakefield.

The boy was taken to nearby Pinderfields Hospital but he died later from his injuries, said West Yorkshire Police.

Neighbours living in the large, detached houses along the road said they did not think anyone lived in the property.

A woman, who had lived in the area for 36 years, described the street as "quiet".

It is understood the dead boy, who has not been named, was Bhatti's son.
