Man arrested in Milly probe bailed

12 April 2012

A man arrested over the possible disposal of a car at the centre of investigations into the murder of schoolgirl Milly Dowler has been released on police bail.

The 34-year-old from Hounslow, west London is only the sixth person to be arrested during the six-year multimillion-pound Surrey Police investigation into the 13-year-old's abduction.

The possible role of a red Daewoo Nexia car is at the heart of long-standing inquiries into possible links between murderer Levi Bellfield and Milly's disappearance.

Former wheel-clamper Bellfield was given a whole-life jail term at the Old Bailey for killing students Marsha McDonnell, 19, and Amelie Delagrange, 22, and attempting to murder schoolgirl Kate Sheedy, 18.

But police have long suspected him of the abduction and murder of schoolgirl Amanda Dowler - known as Milly - who went missing close to Walton-on-Thames railway station in Surrey on March 21 2002.
