Man charged with 1997 murder

A man has been charged with the murder of a transsexual prostitute 10 years ago, police said.

James Hopkins, from Leeds, will appear at West London Magistrates' Court charged with killing pre-operative transsexual Robyn Browne in 1997, Scotland Yard said.

The 41-year-old was arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police Service's Homicide Command on Wednesday in connection with the brutal stabbing.

Robyn, 23, was found dead in her flat in Gosfield Street, Marylebone, London in February 1997. She been repeatedly stabbed.

Born James Errol Browne, she had been having treatment for a sex change and worked in London's West End.
