A 65-year-old man has been charged with murder after his partner was found stabbed to death in a bungalow, police said.

The body of Silvia Rowley-Bailey, 66, was discovered when officers were called to the three-bedroom detached home in the village of Hatfield Heath, on the Hertfordshire/Essex border, on Friday morning.

A post-mortem examination showed she had died from stab wounds.

Her partner, Ronald Edwards was charged with murder, Essex Police said.

Officers were called to the £300,000 bungalow in Matching Road at 11.15am.

The murder has shocked residents in the upmarket village which is close to Down Hall, the country house hotel where reality television star Jade Goody married Jack Tweed just weeks before her death from cancer in March last year.

One local resident who lives close to the house where the woman died, said it was "a real shock".

She said the man who lives at the house was retired and "a nice bloke" but she did not know the woman.

"He always said hello and stopped for a chat," the neighbour said.

Edwards was remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Harlow Magistrates' Court on Monday.
