Man held after two killed in crash

12 April 2012

A man and a boy were killed and a woman was seriously injured after their car was involved in a motorway crash early on Sunday.

All three victims were in a Fiat Punto car which collided with an Audi Quattro on the M62 at Birch services, Greater Manchester.

They were taken to hospital following the crash, at around 6am, but the man, in his 40s, and the teenage boy later died.

The woman, also in her 40s, remains in a serious but stable condition.

Greater Manchester Police said the Audi had been seen driving at high speed along the westbound carriageway of the motorway shortly before the crash took place.

A spokeswoman said the Audi driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

The westbound carriageway was closed between junctions 19 and 20 at Rochdale.
