Man held over child's death

12 April 2012

A man is being questioned by police following the death of a three-year-old girl who was a passenger on a mini-motorcycle that collided with a pick-up truck.

The man was arrested on Monday on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the crash in Louth, Lincolnshire.

Lincolnshire Police said the girl had been a passenger on the motorcycle when it collided with a Ford Ranger pick-up in Monks Dyke Road.

The girl was taken to Grimsby's Princess of Wales Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

A force spokesman said the motorcycle and the pick-up had collided on a footpath.

The truck had been coming out of a garage access road when the incident happened, he said.

Describing the girl's death as tragic, the spokesman said: "This involved an impact between a mini-motorcycle and a Ford Ranger pick-up.

"It would appear that the mini-motorcycle has been travelling along the footpath and has collided with the vehicle which at the time was emerging from a garage access road between two houses.

"The three-year-old girl was a passenger on the mini-motorcycle."

The spokesman added: "A man has been arrested in connection with the death of the child and is currently under arrest for causing death by dangerous driving. Investigations at the minute are proceeding but are very much in their infancy."
