The struggle to make the perfect poached egg could be over after Marks and Spencer unveiled a new Eggs Royale ready meal.

With brunch becoming one of the most popular mealtimes, the supermarket has launched a poached egg dish which just needs popping in the oven for a few minutes.

The food retailer said the product will “take the stress” out of preparing one of the nation’s favourite meals.

The dish consists of a runny poached egg wrapped in smoked salmon and topped with hollandaise sauce - all neatly perched on a blini pancake.

It is heated in the oven for six minutes but M&S chefs have assured customers that the meal delivers a perfect runny yolk every time.

It is prepared 'sous-vide', meaning it is sealed in a vacuum pack and cooked in a water bath at a consistent temperature.

M&S 'deli developer' Kirsty Grieve told the Daily Mail: “We know our customers love to eat eggs for breakfast – our sales are up 10 per cent.

'You can't beat a perfectly poached egg, but it can be surprisingly difficult to conquer.

“Eggs Royale has long been a favourite on restaurant brunch menus but it's notoriously tricky to recreate at home.

“But after several years of research, we have now taken the stress out and our customers are guaranteed a runny yolk.”

The meal, which goes on sale this week, will cost £6.
