British millennials start preparing for Christmas earlier than older generations due to their tight budgets, a new study has found.
Eighteen to 24-year-olds opt to begin festive shopping long before their elders, according to new research.
Millennials will begin looking for that perfect gift from mid-October onwards compared to their parents or grandparents who won’t get into the Christmas spirit until mid-November, research carried out on behalf Goldsmiths Jewellers found.
The age group are thought to start shopping earlier due to tight budgets and lower disposable income.
Surprisingly, over-65s proved to be the least organised when it came to Christmas preparation, researchers claimed.
The study, which surveyed 1,000 Brits in the UK, found that a third of older shoppers will wait until the last minute to start shopping.
Craig Bolton, Executive Director at Goldsmiths said that he thought that the discrepancy between generations when it came to commencing celebrations, was due to the older generations being “more traditional”.
He went on to explain why he thought millennials planned ahead: "This could potentially be due to their stricter budgets and lower disposable income - they might need to make sure that Christmas presents are taken care of ahead of time so that they are able to relax and focus on social activities as Christmas approaches.”
The study also revealed that women tend to be more organised than men when it came to preparing for the Christmas Day with women beginning to shop for presents a month before men.
