'Millionaire' cheat in court

12 April 2012

Charles Ingram, the former army major convicted of cheating on TV's Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, is due to appear in court accused of assaulting a 13-year-old boy he claims coughed in his face.

The 43-year-old will appear before magistrates in Devizes, Wiltshire.

An allegation of common assault was made following an incident in May at the village of Urchfont, Wiltshire, in which a 13-year-old boy claims Ingram attacked him.

Ingram, who lives nearby, has said he intends to plead not guilty, maintaining that the boy's mocking cough left him covered in spit.

When Ingram was standing trial in 2003 for cheating his way to a £1 million win on Chris Tarrant's quiz show, a jury heard that an accomplice in the audience coughed to indicate the correct answers.
