A motorcyclist has sparked outrage after he was seen "planking" on a dual carriageway in Kent.

The biker was spotted performing the stunt, which sees riders lying on their stomach and steering their bike while their legs are outstretched in a Superman-style pose, on the A299 Thanet Way near Herne Bay this week.

The incident was condemned by road safety campaigners.

Gary Rae, spokesman for road safety charity Brake, said: “This is an incredibly stupid and selfish act, which could have easily had catastrophic consequences, not only for the rider, but for other road users around them.

"Using our roads, whether in a vehicle or on a bike, is one of the most dangerous things many of us do on a daily basis and needs our full attention."

It also prompted flurry of critical tweets after a photograph of the biker was shared online.

One Twitter user said: "Totally irresponsible with no respect for other road users. Hope the police prosecute him and take away his licence."

Another person wrote: "What a dipstick!"

And one tweeter said: "Morons like this give bikers a bad name."

A spokesman for Kent Police said it was not investigating the incident as it had not been reported to police.
