‘New evidence’ linking suspect Christian Brueckner to Madeleine McCann disappearance

Madeleine McCann

The German prosecutor investigating Madeleine McCann’s disappearance has claimed there is “new evidence” linking prime suspect Christian Brueckner to the crime.

Hans Christian Wolters spoke on Portuguese TV on Tuesday night, 15 years to the day since Madeleine, then three, vanished from the holiday apartment in Praia da Luz where her family was staying.

He said he is “sure” the toddler was murdered by convicted German sex offender Brueckner, 45, below.

Mr Wolters told Portuguese TV show Sabado: “We have found new facts and new evidence.

“It’s not forensic evidence but evidence and because of our evidence, we are sure he is the murderer of Madeleine McCann. We are sure he killed Madeleine.”

There are claims the evidence was recovered from a VW camper van which belonged to Brueckner when he was living in the Algarve.

There has been speculation that fibres from the missing girl’s pink Eeyore pyjamas were discovered.

The investigator refused to confirm this, but said: “I don’t want to deny it.”

Portuguese sources today said the investigation was still very much continuing.

Brueckner, who denies any involvement, was sentenced to a seven-year term for rape in a separate case in 2019 and denied parole in April. He was identified as a murder suspect by German prosecutors in June 2020.
