London New Year's Eve fireworks ticket website crashes

Crash: Londoners have been unable to access the site to buy fireworks tickets
Saphora Smith21 October 2016

The ticket website for London's New Year's Eve fireworks display crashed today within minutes of going online.

Londoners hoping to buy tickets were left disappointed when they couldn't enter the website, getting an error message instead.

The site was not accessible via desktop or mobile for over an hour on Friday lunchtime nor was the official website of the Mayor of London.

A spokesman for City Hall said: "There was an issue with the site for a short period of time. But it's back up and running now. We're looking into what caused the crash."

Some helpful Twitter users kindly redirected disappointed punters to other sites selling the tickets.

Ticketing was only introduced for the New Year's eve celebrations in 2014 by former mayor Boris Johnson.

Official bodies, including the Met Police, also said ticketing was the best way to ensure a safe and secure event.

Tickets for the 2016/17 event cost £10.
