Newlywed murder: Husband charged

12 April 2012

A newly-wed husband whose wife was found strangled in their garage has been charged with her murder.

The body of Vicky Roberts, 25, was discovered dumped at their home in Runcorn, Cheshire, last Thursday night.

Michael Roberts, 26, who she married six months ago in her home town of Warrington, was arrested a few days later and has been charged with killing her, Cheshire Police said. He will appear before Warrington magistrates.

Roberts was arrested in Wrexham town centre in North Wales. Police picked him up following a tip-off by a member of the public, a Cheshire Police spokeswoman said.

Officers were called to the couple's third-floor flat in Partington Square, a newly-built estate, shortly after 9pm on Thursday.

They went to the property where the couple had lived for about a year and discovered Mrs Roberts' body in the garage. A post-mortem examination revealed she had been strangled.

Cheshire Police said they were contacted by the victim's father who was concerned he had not heard from his daughter.
