The 93rd Academy Awards have been held in Los Angeles in a ceremony like no other.

Nomadland won three of the big awards - best picture, best director and best actress for its star Frances McDormand - while British talent also did well.

Anthony Hopkins was named best actor for his performance in The Father, while Daniel Kaluuya won the Oscar for best supporting actor for his Black Panther movie Judas and the Black Messiah.

The ceremony began with actress Regina King presenting the award for Original Screenplay to The Crown actress Emerald Fennell for Promising Young Woman.

The Father also won for adapted screenplay.

The winner of the best director Oscar Chloe Zhao became only the second woman to win the award.

Accepting the best picture award, she thanked “all the hearts and hands” that worked on the film starring McDormand as a woman travelling through America after the death of her husband and loss of her job.

Brad Pitt presented the Oscar for best supporting actress to 73-year-old Korean actress Yuh-Jung Youn for Minari beating stars including Glenn Close and Olivia Colman in the process.

Laura Dern, who won last year’s best supporting actress Oscar, presented the award for International Feature Film to Danish movie Another Round which stars Mads Mikkelsen as a heavy drinking teacher.

The Oscar for make-up and hairstyling went to the team that worked on Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, making Mia Neal and Jamika Wilson the first black women to win the prize.

Ann Roth won the Oscar for Costume Design for her work on the same film.

The Oscar for achievement in sound went to Sound of Metal and was presented by its star Riz Ahmed who also presented the award for best live action short to Two Distant Strangers.

The award for best animated short was presented by Reese Witherspoon to If Anything Happens I Love You, while the best animated feature film award went to Soul about a school teacher who wants to make it as a jazz musician.

Actress Marlee Matlin gave the Oscar for short documentary to Colette about a French resistance fighter who travelled to Germany to discover what happened to her brother in a Nazi concentration camp.

My Octopus Teacher, about filmmaker Craig Foster forging a relationship with a wild octopus in a South African kelp forest, won the Oscar for documentary feature.

Christopher Nolan’s science-fiction thriller Tenet won the Oscar for visual effects.

The Oscar for best production design went to Mank - the Hollywood story of screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz and his development of the screenplay for Citizen Kane. The same film also won for its cinematography.

Harrison Ford presented the Oscar for film editing to Sound of Metal, before Soul won the Oscar for best score.

The Oscar for best song was presented by Zendaya and went to Fight For You from Judas and the Black Messiah by HER.
