Other Tobin victims could be named

Police could reveal further suspected victims of serial killer Peter Tobin
12 April 2012

Police could reveal further suspected victims of serial killer Peter Tobin in the coming months.

Detectives investigating the 63-year-old's past say they hope to answer questions about crimes that he may have committed while living in different parts of the UK.

Tobin has been convicted of killing three young women.

The bodies of Dinah McNicol and Vicky Hamilton were found by police in the garden of his former home in Margate, Kent, in November 2008.

Tobin was already serving life for raping and murdering Polish student Angelika Kluk and hiding her body in a Glasgow church in 2006.

Detective Superintendent David Swindle told a newspaper: "This is not about Peter Tobin getting more time in jail because he's going to die there anyway. It's about his victims. We owe it to the public to find out what else he has done."

Operation Anagram was set up to investigate the life of Tobin, who was working as a handyman at a church when he murdered Miss Kluk, 23.

The UK-wide inquiry has seen officers attempting to piece together information on his whereabouts over the years to see if he could be linked or ruled out of other crimes.

Tobin was convicted of murdering 18-year-old Miss McNicol last December. The teenager vanished in August 1991 while hitchhiking to her home in Tillingham, Essex, after leaving a music festival in Liphook, Hampshire.

Six months earlier, 15-year-old Vicky Hamilton disappeared while waiting for a bus close to Tobin's then home in Bathgate, West Lothian.
