An octogenarian has transformed his drab bungalow into a magnificent seven-bedroom mansion replete with Renaissance-style frescoes, grand fireplaces and a replica of Tintern Abbey.

Property developer Trevor Wynne-Jones embarked on his epic labour-of-love 30 years ago when he demolished the £13,500 property he’d bought several years earlier.

Now the renovated home, in the village of Wraysbury near Staines less than five miles from Heathrow Airport, is being put back on the market with a guide price of £4 million.

Mr Wynne-Jones, 81, developed the property using only a team of builders to indulge his architectural passion for Venetian style.

It contains six bathrooms, four reception rooms and a series of waterfalls within its grounds.

A recreation of the ruined Monmouthshire monastery of Tintern Abbey has also been built - in honour of his late wife.

And in one room there even hangs a modern-day version of Michelangelo’s fresco “The Creation of Adam”, an integral part of the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling.

Mr Wynne-Jones said: “I am a romantic and I simply love beautiful things. This has been my chance to create something of beauty. It's as if I am an artist painting a picture.”

The property is being marketed by estate agent Waterview, a specialist arm of high-end house-sellers Dexters.
