Householders in Egham demanded more help today as dozens of homes were left to the mercy of the floods.

A London Duck Tours bus and a fire service swift water rescue service were called in to evacuate residents from the Surrey town after water levels continued to rise along the Thames, ruining homes.

With waters still rising today, residents feared the worst was yet to come. Some claimed that the Army had turned up without the right footwear and “left them in the lurch”.

Housemates Harjinder Singh and Joseph Abrahim, who work at Heathrow, waded through the waters with suitcases on their heads after their home was flooded.

Mr Singh said: “We have not seen any Army or anything like that. We have had to fend for ourselves and feel very let down. Our home is totally flooded out. It is a disaster.”

Nadia Ward, 44, a horse trainer, said: “Residents in Egham said that the Army turned up without wellies and then left them in the lurch again. We are very angry. You just feel lost.” Louie Mingoia, 47, said: “We have been badly let down and are very angry.”

Steve Gray, 65, a builder, said: “Many homes are under and woman children and old people have been evacuated. I have never seen it this bad.”
