A man has been charged with murder following the death of a baby, police said.

Darren Newton, 31, from Warwick Drive, Earby, Lancashire, was also charged with 26 child cruelty offences following the death of the 15-month-old baby boy on November 19.

He is due before Burnley Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said the child was pronounced dead after being admitted to Airedale Hospital in Keighley on November 19.

He said: "Following a post-mortem a criminal investigation was launched as a result of injuries discovered on the baby."

A 29-year-old woman and a 15-year-old girl, also both from Earby, were originally arrested on suspicion of murder on November 28 but have now been released without charge.
