A woman suffered a heart attack after she was hit by a flying potato that had launched from a moving car, witnesses claimed.

Police and ambulance crews were called to Manorsfield Road, Bicester just before 11.30am after receiving reports of an injured woman.

Bystanders claimed the woman was struck by a potato thrown from a passing car and suffered a heart attack near a pedestrian crossing shortly after she was hit.

According to the Oxford Mail, Julian Kemp posted on Facebook: “What kind of idiot throws a potato at a woman crossing the road !!!! ... She is currently being attended by paramedics after suffering a heart attack !”

Thames Valley Police confirmed it was investigating the assault.

A police spokesman said: "TVP was called shortly before 11.30am to a report that a female pedestrian in Manorsfield Road, Bicester, had a potato thrown at her from a moving vehicle and suffered a medical episode.

"An officer and the ambulance service attended and the woman was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital. TVP is investigating the assault and anyone who witnessed the incident should call police on 101."
