Prince of Wales to visit Japan for enthronement of Emperor Naruhito

The Prince of Wales is to visit Japan for the enthronement of the new Emperor Naruhito.

The heir to the throne will represent the Queen at the request of the British Government at the ceremony in October.

Charles will also undertake an official visit to Japan following the enthronement ceremony and undertake a series of engagements in Tokoyo.

The two-day visit, starting on October 22, will celebrate British-Japanese connections.

It will be The Prince Of Wales’s fifth visit to Japan, having last visited in 2008.

Emperor Naruhito acceded to The Chrysanthemum Throne upon the abdication of his father, Emperor Akihito, on 1 May 2019.

Charles also attended the Ceremony of Enthronement of Emperor Naruhito’s father, Emperor Akihito on 12th November 1990.
