The Royal Family has paid tribute to Prince William on his 40th birthday by releasing a string of photographs of major milestones in his life.

The pictures, posted to the 4.8 million followers of the royal family’s twitter feed, begin with Princess Diana and Prince Charles leaving St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington with him shortly after he was born in 1982.

They also include images of his wedding in 2011 at Westminster Abbey and with the Queen when he was commissioned into the army five years earlier.

Other pictures include one of him with his three children and working as a search and rescue pilot in the RAF.

It also explained his royal duties saying he supports the Queen by undertaking “charitable activities and projects with a particular focus on the environment, young people & mental health.”

Birthday wishes were also posted on the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall Twitter feed as well as photographs showing William with his father as a baby and as a young man as well the family all together.

The last 12 months have seen Willam and Kate take on even more royal responsibilities with the launch of his Earthshot Prize – a 10-year, £50 million project to recognise innovative ideas to repair the planet.

The couple also spent three days touring the country by royal train in December, thanking frontline and key workers for their efforts since the Covid crisis began.

But there have been setbacks with William and Kate criticised for certain elements of their recent Caribbean tour deemed to hark back to colonial days.

Prince William Arthur Philip Louis of Wales was born second in line to the throne at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, at 9.03pm on June 21 198, weighing 7lb 1 1/2oz.

At just nine months old, he accompanied his parents on their six-week official visit to Australia and New Zealand, a move which was a break from royal tradition.

His mother Diana, who separated from Charles in 1992, died in a car crash in 1997.

He was just 15 and his brother Harry, 12, and the pair walked behind their mum’s coffin during a funeral procession through London.

William met Kate Middleton at St Andrews University in Fife, Scotland, and the pair wed in 2011 after dating for more than eight years.
