My Family star Robert Lindsay will play an IVF expert in an “epic” drama at Hampstead Theatre.

The actor, recently seen on stage in Anything Goes at the Barbican, plays Professor Richard Myers in The Fever Syndrome by playwright Alexis Zegerman.

The theatre’s artistic director Roxana Silbert, who will direct the show, said: “The Fever Syndrome is an epic family drama and I can’t wait to bring Alexis’ vibrant play to life with this tremendous team of artists.

“It’s a multi-generational feast of complicated relationships, festering grudges and explosive feelings.”

The story starts with Professor Myers’ family gathering to watch him get a lifetime achievement award before family fractures over money and his achievements come to the surface.

It runs from March 19 to April 23.

RADA-trained Lindsay first found fame in the 1970s playing would-be south London revolutionary Wolfie Smith in Citizen Smith.

He has gone on to star in hit sitcoms, including My Family, as well as appearing in films and with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

The actor has won criticial acclaim for roles including the corrupt left-wing council leader in GBH and has won a TV Bafta, a Tony award and two Olivier Awards.
