Robot tipped to top Christmas lists

12 April 2012

A hi-tech robot that interacts with its owner and can see, hear and touch has been voted Britain's favourite toy in a survey of youngsters.

Robosapien V2 is expected to be the must-have item this Christmas, despite costing more than £150.

The electronic toy can walk, avoids obstacles, perform martial arts and can even lie down and get back up.

In second place is the Big Race Ducati Desmosedici, a model motorbike which will probably be a favourite with boys in the run-up to Christmas as will the third place toy - a Star Wars electronic lightsaber.

The Girl Crush Streak and Style, which lets youngsters add coloured streaks to their hair, is next, followed by a radio-controlled Ferrari model car.

In sixth place is a toy chimp that can clap its hands and make sounds, then the interactive miniature Pixel Chix Houses, followed by a Lego football set.

The youngsters voted a sticker-making machine into ninth place, followed by Moon Shoes that allow the wearer to jump like a kangaroo.

The survey commissioned by Duracell questioned 100 five to 10-year-olds in the UK.

Duracell spokesman and child psychologist Richard Woolfson said: "As modern society evolves, so do children's playing habits and the toys they're given.

"The simplicity and innocence of old-fashioned toys such as skipping ropes and footballs are fast being replaced by more technologically-advanced counterparts, which suitably prepare them for our high-paced society."
