Police are now investigating the death of a zookeeper killed by a tiger at a Cambridgeshire zoo.

Rosa King, 34, died in a “freak accident” after a tiger entered an enclosure she was in and attacked her on Monday.

Officers from Cambridgeshire Police attended the scene at Hamerton Zoo Park but said on Tuesday morning that the death was “non-suspicious”.

They have now launched a joint investigation with the council into the “unexplained death”.

A police spokesman said the tiger has not been harmed, adding: "We are jointly investigating with the council."

Nigel McCurdy, for Huntingdonshire District Council, said: "The council sympathises with the family and friends of the zookeeper and offers its condolences.

"Both the police and the council are working together within routine protocols to progress investigations into the incident as efficiently and effectively as possible."

A spokesman for Hamerton Zoo Park, in Huntingdon, said on Wednesday it will remain closed following Monday’s incident.

Tributes have poured in to Ms King, calling her a “shining light” who will be “greatly missed”.

Andrea King, the mother of the zookeeper, said: "She wouldn't have done anything else, it's what she has always done, it's what she has always loved."
