The world’s media and a hardened band of veteran Royal watchers continued their vigil outside St Mary’s Hospital today waiting for the arrival of the Duchess of Cambridge.

A group of superfans have spent up to a week living in tents and on benches outside the Lindo Wing where Kate is due to give birth to her second child.

John Loughrey, 60, a chef from Wandsworth, who said: “We’re waiting, but the most important thing is a healthy baby and healthy Duchess of Cambridge.”

Terry Hutt, 79, a retired carpenter and joiner, said: “It’s been freezing through the night, but I’m an old soldier and we’ll all pull through.

“I’m hoping the baby will come on Thursday, which is my 80th birthday.”

Several reports have suggested that the Duchess’s due date was on Saturday, but some claim that the due date was actually Thursday.
