Russell Brand has urged voters to back Labour in this week's general election "to get the Conservative party out of government".

The comedian and actor revealed a previously unseen part of his interview with Ed Miliband as he offered him his support in Labour's bid to form the next government.

Brand was described by Prime Minister David Cameron as a "joke" last week after conducting an interview with his Labour rival.

The self-styled revolutionary has previously urged people not to bother voting, and also endorsed Green party MP Caroline Lucas in her Brighton constituency.

But in a YouTube clip aired today, he said: "What I heard Ed Miliband say is that if we speak, he will listen. So on that basis I think we've got no choice but to take decisive action to end the danger of the Conservative party.

"If you're Scottish, you don't need an English person telling you what to do; you know what you're doing. If you're in Brighton, I think it would be a travesty if we lost the voice of Caroline Lucas in Westminster.

"But anywhere else, you've got to vote Labour. You've got to get the Conservative party out of government and out of this country so that we can begin community-led activism, so that we can be heard continually."

During previously unseen footage from last week's interview, Mr Miliband cited the living wage and climate change as areas where politicians can make a difference after movements are started by voters.

"It's about people playing their part," the Labour leader said.

Brand added of Mr Miliband: "What's important is that this bloke will be in Parliament and I think this bloke will listen to us. So on May 7, vote Labour."

Mr Miliband had been widely derided for meeting Brand in the kitchen of his £2m flat down a cobbled street in Shoreditch.

He was most heavily ridiculed for appearing to adopt a 'mockney' accent during the clip, first uploaded to YouTube last week.
